About us at Mr. Ed’s Bar and Grille Put in Bay Ohio
A note from Ed is his own words
I would like to thank you for being at one of our properties. A lot of friends and patrons over the years have asked how I got started with this MESS!! Well, in 1993, I was staying at the Commodore Motel with friends when after a few drinks, the owner stated that he wanted to sell. After a hand shake deal and after 22 years working in Fremont, OH at EverReady Battery, I borrowed all I could and used all my savings and bought the Commodore Motel. In the spring of 1994 we opened Commodore Tee’s, a t-shirt shop on Delaware Ave on Put-In-Bay. Back then I had a lot of help from many friends and family.
In 1996 we built a 31 room hotel on the property that gave us the right to obtain a liquor license. So in 1997, after many ordeals with the Village of Put-in-Bay, we opened the first pool bar on the island called the “Tiki”. After a screw up with bands and DJ’s, we put the DJ at the pool and that was the start of the pool bar fad that continues today. Change leads to change and in May of 1998 we opened the first Mr. Ed’s Bar where the t-shirt shop was located.
In 2004 after much controversy, we tore down the “original” Mr. Ed’s and Commodore Motel and built a bigger and better Mr. Ed’s and 74 room Commodore Resorts. In 2009 the pool bars ruled the island. We then opened the Vegas style pool bar “Mist”.
More about us
While Put-In-Bay was going crazy, in 2003 we built Mr. Ed’s (2) and Commodore Perry Hotel in Port Clinton, OH. The hotel bar is open all year round and only a 4 minute walk to the Jet Express. It gives tourists another option for lodging, food and beverages.
So…if my head wasn’t screwed up enough, the opportunity to purchase the beach property, hotel and restaurant across the street in Port Clinton from Mr. Ed’s came available. It was purchased in 2010 and completely remodeled and today Dock Beach House is a seafood and beach restaurant in Port Clinton.
Well, what is next, a cold Miller Lite, one that either tastes great or is less filling, who cares….it is all about family and friends! Whether at the Bay, Port Clinton or Florida or Ohio, as Mike “Mad Dog” would say…..Every day above ground is a goooood day! I hope to see you soon!
P.S. Oh I forgot in June of 2013 we will open Victory Station Hotel and Victory Golf Cart Sales & Rental, both located on Put-In-Bay! Boy I am crazy!
